Like everyone around the country we’ve been devastated by the ABC chopper crash. John knew Paul Lockyer well and Gary Ticehurst has been a friend of mine for many years as he was the ‘Variety Bash chopper’. I saw him not long ago and he told me that he wasn’t able to do the Bash this year because of this Lake Eyre trip. He was the best in the country, I’m sure. I had the enormous privilege of flying around the Gulf of Carpentaria in the chopper on a Bash about seven years ago . . . something I’ll never forget.
