Road Report (No.8)

What a month it’s been! From Fiji to the Variety Bash, a slight detour to Gympie, back to Sydney to wash the dust off then to Alice Springs.

This lady from America couldn't believe her luck to hear John practising outside, while the bure was being cleaned, and get the chance to have a chat.

At the beginning of August, John and Meg left the chilly winter weather for Hideaway Resort on the Coral Coast of Viti Levu, Fiji for the first Fijian Country Music Festival. A group of about 150 enthusiastic Aussies travelled there to spend the week being entertained at night with concerts from John, Felicity Urqhuart, Bill Chambers and others. The days were filled with opportunities to experience swimming, snorkelling over the reef, line dancing, curry cooking lessons, visiting the local village, shopping and loads more. It was a wonderful combination of relaxation and work. A highlight of the trip was visiting the local village on Sunday and attending their church service (which was entirely in Fijian!). But it was the wonderful singing of the Fijian people, which was so memorable. Hopefully Chris Watson from Travel World at Tamworth will do it again next year!

Our next update will tell you about what will be remembered one of the highlights of the 40th year . . . the magic night under the stars at Ooraminna, near Alice Springs.
