Monday, February 9th 2009: Anyone who missed the action at the recent Tamworth Country Music Festival can make up for lost time when the man behind infamous hits, if not anthems, such as ‘True Blue’ and ‘Old Man Emu’ lends his name and talent to a fundraising concert in order to benefit the entire industry.

John Williamson will present a concert on Saturday 4th April 2009 at Revesby Workers Club, Sydney with proceeds going directly to the Country Music Association of Australia (CMAA).

Williamson, recent winner at this year’s Country Music Awards of Australia for Bush Ballad of the Year with ‘Australia is Another Word for Free’ (with Warren H. Williams and Amos Morris). The win provided John with his 24th Golden Guitar and was taken from his successful 2008 album release, Hillbilly Road.

The April 4th concert will follow from his ‘Hillbilly Road’ Tour which has travelled Australia since August 2008. The concert showcases his latest musical offerings that have been noted as being personal and honest. In addition to Hillbilly Road songs from his latest album including the charming ‘Cydi’, audience attending and supporting the fundraiser will also be treated to some of his biggest hits from his 39 year career including ‘Waltzing Matilda’, ‘Cootamundra Wattle’, ‘Galleries of Pink Galahs’, ‘Raining on the Rock’ and most famous of all, ‘True Blue’.

As President of the Country Music Association of Australia (CMAA), Williamson’s agreement to front the concert and donate all proceeds to the association reinforces his desire to grow and develop the industry but also his ongoing appreciation of his audience.

“The country music industry is like any other business, you have tough times and great times. I believe where we are fortunate is the fans of the genre are extremely loyal and committed. In a day when we as consumers can be fickle with our interests, the fans of country music have remained true. I’m thrilled to be able to do this concert that will provide some benefit to an industry that has supported me over such a long career”, said John Williamson.
