News from the Tour
Over the last few weeks, the ‘Hillbilly Road’ Tour has travelled several thousand kilometres to Boyup Brook and Perth, Western Australia, to Renmark and Adelaide, South Australia and finally to Toowoomba and Brisbane, Queensland. Phew!
As you can see from the accompanying photos, Harvey Dickson’s Country Music Centre, Boyup Brook was quite a venue and the enthusiastic, sellout crowd seem to have enjoyed the show. The Perth shows at the famous Octagon Theatre were also quite a revelation, although perhaps fractionally more sedate!
The Chaffey Theatre, Renmark was another sellout with a very responsive audience and in the biggest surprise of the tour, John was absolutely stunned when the entire crowd burst into ‘Happy Birthday’ the moment he set foot on stage for his appearance at Adelaide’s Her Majesty’s Theatre. During the encores, he was presented with a special cake – a photo opportunity for many in the theatre.
We receive lots of emails and letters from Queensland and it was evident that lots of people planned to see John last weekend. The Toowoomba show at the Empire Theatre was very well attended and the Brisbane gig at Norths Leagues Club had been another sellout for some time.
PS: If you have good pictures of any of these gigs, you might wish to send them to this website. Hopefully we will get the chance to feature a selection over coming weeks.
